Mission Statement

CDMU began its activity by procuring essential medicines and distributing them among the NGO member organisations on non-profit basis. Major conflict developed when the demand profile from MOs widely differed from the essential drugs procured by CDMU. This necessitated CDMU's effort for campaign for rational use of medicines (RUM). CDMU took steps to develop a drug information and documentation center. Accordingly, a separate wing of CDMU thus was opened- CDMU Documentation Centre. The Centre started publication of Rational Drug Bulletin 12 years ago.

The Rational Drug Bulletin aimed to campaign the following:

• Bulletin Shall not replicate the existing professional journals.

• Bulletin shall exclusively deal with rational use of medicines.

• It will provide information about the use of essential drugs.

• It will deal with the problems of irrational drugs and hazardous drugs.

• Special write up on different therapeutic use of essential drugs replacing the irrational drugs shall be regularly published.

• The bulletin shall evaluate claims on the efficacy of newly introduced drugs.

• Efficacy of the largely sold irrational drugs shall be regularly analysed.

• Need of quality of medicines shall be campaigned.

• Important articles from other journal in the similar area shall also be published with due acknowledgement of the authors.

• The bulletin shall also endeavor for Rational Medicinal Policy.

• The bulletin shall also campaign on access to essential drugs.

• Bulletins aims to reach the medical profession, para-medical staff, pharmacists and policy makers.

• The bulletin shall not take any advertisements.

• Rational Drug Bulletin shall co-ordinate with other similar journals nationally and internationally.

Philosophy behind RDB

It has been rightly said that Medicine = Active substance + Appropriate information. CDMU

subscribes to this philosophy and believes that it is futile to try to promote the concept of rational drug use without trying to bridge the vast information gap that exists in this field. CDMU's flagship publication, the quarterly rational drug bulletin, is a modest endeavor in this direction and has been published uninterruptedly for the last 12 years.

Doctors, pharmacists, nurses, health workers, health administrators, social workers, anybody is welcome to contribute to our bulletin. Formal academic qualification is not a prerequisite for authorship but the contributions should not have been published or simultaneously submitted for publication elsewhere.
