A campaign on rational use of
medicines and rational
pharmaceutical management [RPM] was launched by the CDMU in 1989 with the idea of influencing doctors and healthcare
deliverers towards adoption of a rational attitude towards medicines use, appropriate
to the needs of the community they serve.
Training programs and workshops
on Rational Use of Medicines is a very important activity of CDMU being
coordinated from the Drug Information cum Guidance Centre. We cover diverse medicinal topics in
these programs, of public health importance, with rational use of drugs as the
focus. For this we are equipped with sizeable quantity of resource materials
and audiovisual and have access to a panel of resource persons for content
delivery in these training programs. The course module of our program. [ Module ].
Target audience:
Doctors, health workers, nurses, pharmacists, program managers, dais (trained
birth attendants), rural practitioners and rural health workers. We prefer a
homogeneous group.
Learning methods: Workshop style [with group
activity], lecture type or symposium type depending upon the size of the
audience.
Usual program duration: Half-day (3 h) to
3 day (21 h) depending upon organization’s need.
Awareness program with
SHGs: CDMU with limited financial
resources has started program on rational use of medicines, prevention of common
diseases and basic health and hygiene. So far 300 SHG members have been so far
covered on 4 districts. The awareness program was conducted by using two books
written in Bengali and several posters. All the meetings were intensely
interactive. In the Food and Drug Safety project meetings was organized with
SHGs and it has a great impact on change in behavior in respect to asking cash
memo at chemist shop, avoiding color food and washing of hand with soap
