Publications

The cornerstone publication of CDMU is the quarterly 'Rational Drug Bulletin' whose mission statement is to make consumers aware of various issues pertaining to drugs, rational therapeutics and public health problems. The bulletin is currently in its seventh year of publication.

Rational Drug Bulletin -  Mission Statement

CDMU began its activity by procuring essential medicines and distributing them among the NGO member organisations on non-profit basis. Major conflict developed when the demand profile from MOs widely differed from the essential drugs procured by CDMU. This necessitated CDMU's effort for campaign for rational use of medicines (RUM). CDMU took steps to develop a drug information and documentation center. Accordingly, a separate wing of CDMU thus was opened- CDMU Documentation Centre. The Centre started publication of Rational Drug Bulletin 17 years ago.

In 2000, A brief communication was sent to the Indian Journal of Pharmacology regarding the drug information service activity of CDMU Documentation Centre. We are very happy to say that this was accepted and published in the April, 2001, issue of the journal as a 2-page letter to the editor:

  • Hazra A, Sen A, Roy S. One year experience of drug information service in the NGO sector. Ind J Pharmacol 2001; 3: 44-45.

  • The center's resources were extensively used to conduct a drug use survey in a particular NGO organization [SHIS, Bhangar, 24 Parganas South] by Dr. Avijit Hazra, Honorary Unit Coordinator in collaboration with Dr. S. K. Tripathi, Pharmaceutical Committee member and advisor to CDMU. This experience has also been published as an original research paper in the August, 2000, issue of the National Medical Journal of India.

  • Hazra A, Tripathi SK, Alam MS. Prescribing and dispensing activities at the health facilities of a non-governmental organization. The National Medical Journal of India 2000; 13(4): 177-82.
